STEAK PIE IS ‘RIDICULOUSLY EASY' TO MAKE AT HOME IF YOU FOLLOW THIS SIMPLE RECIPE

Steak pie is the perfect meal during the cold February weather and is incredibly simple to make yourself as long as you have the right recipe.

Sarah Barnes, a cook and founder of Taming Twins, has shared that making a homecooked meal does not need to be a hassle if you use her "comforting, impressive and hearty" recipe.

She said: "Having a showstopper of a pie up our sleeves for the time of year when comfort food is calling is a MUST for all us home cooks.

"But sometimes baking a pie can seem a bit much in our busy lives. This is exactly why I wanted to make a very simplified pie that ticked all of the boxes for flavour and satisfaction but also happened to be ridiculously easy to make."

What is fantastic about this recipe is that it is very hands-off as it takes roughly 15 minutes to prepare before you let it slowly cook for a few hours.

How to make homemade steak pie

You will need:

  • 700g of stewing beef
  • 600ml of beef stock (a cube is fine)
  • 320g of puff pastry
  • Two onions (peeled and chopped)
  • Four carrots (peeled and chopped)
  • 50g of plain flour
  • Two tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • One tablespoon of sunflower oil
  • One egg (beaten)
  • Salt and pepper

Recipe:

To begin, heat the oil in a large frying pan and add your beef chunks. Cook for roughly five to 10 minutes until the meat begins to turn brown.

Add the carrots and onions, then cook for five more minutes under the vegetables become tender.

Then, add the flour, stir it through the ingredients, and cook the filling for roughly five more minutes.

Next, add the beef stock, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper. Place the lid on the pan and cook it on a very low heat for two hours.

Make sure to keep an eye on the stew as it cooks and make sure to stir it occasionally. If it looks dry, do not be afraid to add a little more stock and water.

Once the beef filling is ready, spoon it into an oven dish and place the puff pastry on top. Cut a hole in the middle of the pastry and brush with a beaten egg.

Place the dish in a preheated oven set at 220C. Cook for 30 minutes until the pastry is crisp and golden, then your mouthwatering steak pie is ready to serve.
