Jamie Oliver's flapjack biscuits are so straightforward to make in as little as 29 minutes that they'll soon become a favourite recipe. Using just five simple ingredients, this recipe yields 16 squares, making it ideal for sharing or enjoying throughout the week. These chewy biscuits come out golden brown and packed with flavour despite being categorised as "super easy to make" by the chef.
Sharing this recipe from his cookbook '5 Ingredients - Quick & Easy Food' online, Jamie said: "Embracing store-cupboard ingredients, these tasty little morsels are sure to go down a treat for grown-ups, big kids and little ones alike. The method is super-easy, the food processor does all the hard work, and the measurements are straightforward, too."
You can also substitute the golden syrup for sugar, honey or even maple syrup, and they will still come out delicious.
Ingredients
100g unsalted butter at room temperature
100g mixed dried fruit & nuts
100g porridge oats
100g self-raising flour
100g golden syrup
Method
Preheat your oven to 180C (350F) or gas mark four.
Prepare a deep 20cm square baking tin by lining it with greaseproof paper and lightly greasing it with olive oil.
In a food processor, combine the butter, dried fruit, nuts, oats, and flour. Pulse the mixture until it begins to bind together and separate from the sides of the bowl. Once this happens, add the syrup and pulse again until everything is well incorporated.
Transfer the mixture into the prepared tin, spreading it out evenly to cover the edges. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until it turns a golden brown colour.
Once baked, remove it from the oven and cut it into 16 squares while it's still in the tin. Allow it to cool in the tin for around five minutes.
After that, use the greaseproof paper to lift the mixture out of the tin and place it on a wire rack. Let it cool completely before serving.
